A Poem and other thoughts

There's nothing like the descent into winter to really make you consider everyone you've ever met and everything you've ever done. I hope that if you are reading this, you are happy and healthy and at least 51% at peace with your life. I'm on my way.

Here is a beautiful poem by Mary Oliver that I would beam into everyone's mind if I could. I would also highly recommend listening to a recorded version of her reading it.

Mary Oliver
Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Lately, I've been very into fun winter scarves and a silly new pair of blue light glasses (see previous blog).

This week I finished 2 papers, got 2 exams back, and finally secured a second internship, but I also walked into a door in front of my coworkers and looked at one too many pictures of myself in middle school, so the ego remains in check.

We just finished reading Macbeth for my Shakespeare class, and I won't spoil it (published in 1623), but I kind of really disliked the ending. Shakespeare is not very good at writing the 5th act of any play in a way that wraps up well.

That is all, I'm all out of thoughts for now. TTFN <3
